The process
Certified ID, title deed, 4 photos, rental amount, city, and lease preference (strict lease or rent-to-buy). Owner also sets tenant age and gender preferences for applicable properties.
Certified copy of South African ID and three months of bank statements. Tenant indicates preferred city or area, property type, viewing preference (in-person or virtual), and maximum affordable rent.
Documents are validated against official records. The affordability rule (rent ≤ 42% of average monthly income) is calculated automatically. Properties and tenants are matched by city and verified affordability — no manual browsing.
Matched pairs receive each other's verified profile summary. Viewings are arranged based on tenant preference. R650 listing fee paid by owner; R135 admin fee paid by tenant — payments processed via PayPal.
Verification standards
South Africa's rental market loses millions annually to fraudulent applications. TenantSure requires certified documents from both parties — the kind that hold up at the Rental Housing Tribunal if something goes wrong.
Both parties submit a certified copy of their South African ID. Certification by a Commissioner of Oaths or police officer confirms document authenticity and deters fraud.
Tenants provide three months of certified bank statements. Used to calculate average monthly income and verify the affordability rule holds: rent ≤ 42% of income.
Property owners submit a certified copy of their title deed. Confirms legal ownership and eliminates listings from people who do not own the property they are renting out.
All document handling complies with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act. Personal data is held securely, only shared between verified matched pairs, and retained only as long as necessary.
